Advocating For Social Justice

The Benedict Center is a leading service provider and advocate for justice-involved women in Milwaukee County. We advocate for a fair and equitable justice system and seek public health policies to improve health and safety for everyone.  The lived experiences of women in our direct services inform our systems change work.

Our current advocacy efforts focus on reframing substance use disorders, mental health issues, trauma for justice-involved women, including women in the street sex trade, as public health concerns that merit community based treatment, housing and support rather than as criminal issues that result in incarceration.

Homelessness

The Benedict Center is leading community efforts to increase access to safe, affordable housing for women in the street-based sex trade.
