POSITION: Sexual Assault Advocate/Case Manager, Sisters Program
REPORTS TO: Sisters Program Director
POSITION PURPOSE: Provide sexual assault advocacy and individual case management services for Sisters Program participants in two drop-in centers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advocacy and Case Management
- Maintain a regular onsite presence at Sisters Program Drop-In Centers providing; advocacy, crisis support, and on-going case management services.
- Provide trauma informed, culturally competent, crisis intervention and emotional support for women in the program through a process of listening, providing emotional support, identifying options, problem solving and skill development.
- Advocate on behalf of women who are identified by systems as having been sexually assaulted and/or sex trafficked and women who want to report those experiences with systems to ensure their interests are represented and their rights are upheld, including in-person accompaniment with healthcare providers, law enforcement, and other court proceedings.
- Provide support and advocacy to clients involved in Municipal Court, Circuit Court, and/or Family court in consultation with Benedict Center and Sisters staff familiar with these systems.
- Educate all Sisters participants on their rights and protections as victims of crime.
- Meet with clients individually on a weekly basis and/or as needed to identify needs, facilitate referrals to community resources including shelter/housing, food, clothing, harm reduction supports for active drug users, healthcare, transportation and other public assistance, assist clients in setting personal goals and monitor progress and achievement of these goals.
- Conduct follow-up with women to ensure they have been successfully connected to the resources and supports they need.
Community and Agency-Wide Connections
- Ensure women are connected to other Benedict Center program activities when appropriate to support their growth and independence.
- Collaborate with local victim services providers to share information about the unique challenges and barriers experienced by women in the street-based sex trade.
- Identify additional community resources who can also assist women in the street-based sex trade.
- Develop collaborative relationships with staff of local community agencies in order to provide client with coordination of care services and services outside the Sisters Program scope.
- Implement agency and program initiatives that require involvement of Sisters staff including housing assessments, surveys and community partnerships.
Sisters Program Support and Communication
- Assist in ensuring the Drop-In Center provides a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for program participants.
- Maintain strong and supportive relationships with program participants to address their basic needs, personal growth and attainment of personal goals.
- As possible, co-facilitate and assist with groups conducted with participants.
- Support drop-in center staff, if needed, in conducting program orientation and intake sessions with new clients.
- Assist other Sisters Program staff who are working with women who’ve been sexually assaulted and/or sex trafficked to ensure the women receive the care and services they need.
- Participate in program staff meetings, staffing with system partners, in-service trainings and staff development opportunities.
- Meet with Program Director on a regular basis for supervision and support.
Other duties as assigned.
Evaluation and Data Collection
- Document activities and outcomes, secure feedback from program participants and share with the Program Director on a regular basis.
- Complete and submit case file documentation in a timely manner.
- Work with Program Director on any specific billing requirements for funding sources.
- Maintain strong communication with Sisters staff.
- Work with Program Director and clinical counselor/case manager to evaluate the advocacy and case management outcomes and adjust work plans as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related areas preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in programs that serve women.
- Ability to work well with women from diverse economic, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and religious backgrounds in an open and respectful environment.
- Understanding of and commitment to harm reduction practice, trauma-informed care, self-reflection, accountability and cultural competence.
- Commitment to utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to mediate and resolve conflict constructively.
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner.
- Ability to foster an environment of team work with program and agency staff.
- Computer literacy and experience with databases and excel worksheets.
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate early morning, evening and weekend hours.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation to transport clients at times and automobile insurance are required as local travel within Milwaukee County is a requirement.
